In most homes, the living room is home base for all things cozy, comfy, and welcoming. Whether you’re curled up with a good book, enjoying a movie with family, or gathering with friends for a glass of wine, the living room is the perfect place to express your personal interior design style. But sometimes it’s good to mix things up and when that time comes, we’re often searching for inspiration and guidance. Which is why, with the turning of the new year, we’ve tapped designers to share some of the most popular living room decor ideas for 2025.

Whether you’re looking to make a few little tweaks here and there or want to revamp the whole thing, our experts Jenna Morrow of Morrow Design Studios, Theresa Butler of Theresa Butler Interiors, Lauren Lerner of Living with Lolo and Tina Guevara of Juliette Sebastian Interiors shared the living room decor ideas they’re excited to see come to fruition in 2025. If you’re ready to transform your living room and refresh your space in the new year—read on.

The Best Living Room Decor Ideas for 2025

2025 continues to be a year of bold design trends. We’re staying both fearless (moody hues, rich color palettes and curated maximalism) and soft at the same time (earth tones, curves, calm spaces). Interior trends move a bit slower than fashion trends, since we’re not completely re-styling our homes every year. 2025 is an extension of last year—we’re collectively craving highly personalized, peaceful spaces. Especially living rooms.

So why make a change? Think of your living room as a sanctuary for comfort and inspiration. It’s a place where the best ideas make their appearance in a less-intimate environment than the bedroom. Living room decor speaks to stylistic choices made from a place of comfort that simultaneously reflects the energy you want to wake up to each morning. With this in mind, we love incorporating new trends into your lived-in space without completely overhauling the vibe.

The idea of re-vamping a frequented space is always appealing, yet our designers note that incorporating the living room decor ideas for 2025 can be done with a few subtle shifts. However you’re looking to switch up your space in the year to come, there’s bound to be a trend for you.

Color Drenching

Last year, deep, bold hues re-entered the interior world in a big way. The moodiness isn’t going anywhere in 2025. One way to make a large impact in your living room is to try color drenching—another big trend for the year.

“Don’t be afraid to play with bold but muted colors in a room’s entirety by color drenching it,” Morrow says. “Commit to painting the walls, trim, and ceiling in one color to add dramatic flair to the space.” Not sure what color to start with? If you’d like to go dark, Morrow suggests navy. “This is a shade that’s bold but sophisticated,” she says.

Bright, white living room decor ideas.

Statement Stoneware

Maximalist style continues to be popular this year, and if you’d like to ease in with a statement piece for your living room, Guevara suggests looking at stoneware. “Natural stone with bold veining—travertine, marble, and onyx—is taking center stage in coffee tables, fireplaces, and decor,” she shares.

While it’s perhaps easier to think of stone in kitchens and bathrooms, don’t underestimate it as an excellent focal point in your living room. Guevara suggests pairing stone with soft textures like wool or boucle to keep it from feeling too cold.

Curved Furniture and Decor

Have you heard? Hard edges are out. Curves are being fully embraced and incorporating soft edges into your living room will make it all the more cozy. Morrow suggests curved furniture for your living room, like a sofa or chair. “These pieces will create a welcoming and cozy space that’s easy to flow through—whether it’s just you at home or you and your closest friends,” she shares.

Not in the market for new furniture? Morrow suggests curved decor too. “You can also add decorative pieces that are curved such as curved statement lighting, oval accent trays on the coffee table, and round accent pillows,” she continues.

Healdsburg Small Wicker Swivel Chair

These woven rattan lounge chairs elevate any living space with sophisticated architectural lines and earthy handwoven texture. A swivel base and creamy cushions make them comfortable for lounging—and we love them as a pair.

Penn Ottoman

A cushy, inviting spot for your lazy Sundays, this ottoman will subtly soften your living room.

Hand-Crafted, Artisanal Furniture

If you’re on the hunt for new living room furniture this year, be on the lookout for hand-crafted, artisanal pieces that will last a long time. “Cheap, mass-produced furniture is on the decline as sustainability and high-quality craftsmanship take center stage,” Butler says. “I think people are seeing the value in investing in quality pieces that can be passed down from generation to generation. People are looking to get more from their furniture.”

Morrow agrees. “Hand-crafted furniture will add uniqueness to your space as hand-crafted pieces vary,” she says. “One coffee table style made by the same artisan will contain slightly different appearances due to being hand-crafted.”

black olive tree - camille's living room plant

Biophilic Design

If your living room doesn’t have any plants, this is the year to add some greenery to your space. Guevara suggests bringing the outside in to create a peaceful, happy living room. “The biophilic movement is becoming a big focus in 2025, as it shows how connecting with nature at home can improve your mental health and lower your stress,” she says. “Studies show that being around greenery reduces stress, boosts your productivity, and improves your mood.”

Even if real plants aren’t your thing, or perhaps your living room doesn’t have much natural light, faux plants will work as well. Even adding green drapes or accent pillows to your sofa can create more calm in your space.

Flory Wallpaper

Wallpaper

“Wallpaper is experiencing a resurgence, bringing fresh excitement to the design world—and it’s already here,” Butler exclaims. As someone who wallpapered her office for her birthday last year, I can attest to this. Wallpaper in your living room would make a huge impact on your space.

“Today’s wallpaper comes in a variety of colors, textures, and patterns, and it’s being used not just on vertical walls, but even on ceilings,” Butler continues. “Its revival unlocks endless opportunities for incorporating texture, color, and pattern into spaces, encouraging more creative and bold design choices.”

camille styles living room bookshelf

Earth Tones

Switching up your living room color palette is a great way to revamp your living room, whether your budget is big or small. Not sure what colors to look for? In 2025, warm neutrals and earth tones are a great place to start. “Earthy color palettes will reign in 2025,” Guevara says. “Colors like terracotta, muted greens, beige, caramel, and even brown will appear in fabrics, rugs, and decorative pieces.”

One way to add earth tones to your living room is to use natural elements like wood, stone or woven materials in both your furniture and decor. Natural materials look beautiful against neutral color palettes, especially when there is a pop of green from a plant nearby.

Textura Side Table

Inspired by the rich craft traditions of Mexico, this handwoven and handcrafted side table brings striking design and high-texture to an entryway, living room, or bedside table. The clean-lined beechwood frame, expertly wrapped with natural seagrass rope, blends modern design with artisanal excellence.

Textura Bench

This handcrafted bench brings striking design to your living room coffee table. Stack a few books and a vase—giving this beautiful bench room to shine.

Highly Personalized Space

The one trend that is holding strong in 2025 is highly personalized spaces. That is—tossing trends to the side and embracing the colors and textures you love. “Living rooms are becoming injected with more character, moving away from solely light and bright interiors by introducing darker, more dramatic tones that captivate and feel more intimate,” Lerner says.

So if you love stripes, deep purple, or that cool art you found at the flea market—add it to your home. Unique furniture? Lerner says go for it. “For furniture, unconventional designs and curves that offer both aesthetic appeal and comfort are being embraced as people increasingly opt for bolder choices that can serve as a unique form of art.”

Two weeks ago, our living room was torn apart. The drywall and flooring were removed, then the insulation, to reveal framing that hadn’t been exposed in 75 years. It was a moment we’d been waiting for over 4 years since the day we bought the beach house and began our journey of endless permitting delays with the City of Malibu.

When we started the project, our youngest, Henry, hadn’t begun kindergarten. Now, as we’re finally beginning construction, he’s halfway through fourth grade. The journey of this house has been a masterclass in patience and pivots, teaching us that the only thing that’s really in our control is choosing the next right step… continue reading on Substack.

After 4 years of patience, it's finally go time.

It’s no exaggeration to say that I’ve been waiting to share this post with you for years. If you’ve been following for a while, you’ll know that in 2020, we went all in on our big dream to renovate a beach house in Malibu. We fell in love with an acre of land overlooking Zuma Beach, with views of a beautiful horse farm and gardens overflowing with wild roses and olive trees. The breezes carried the scent of jasmine and salt water, and at night the sun set just at the point where the ocean meets the mountains. It was love at first sight.

A couple of months later, we got the keys to the house and our journey began. We hired Doug Burdge, our beloved Malibu-based architect, to reinvent the floor plan and add 1,000 square feet. We got all our ducks in a row and submitted everything to the city. And then began three years of waiting as we slogged through the permitting process with the City of Malibu. We didn’t know at the time how much patience and uncertainty this dream of ours would require, but throughout, we held tightly to our vision and refused to give up.

In my Substack today, I shared a lot more about our personal journey and what it taught me, and the range of emotions that come from building in a place that’s so recently been rocked by tragedy. If you want the full story (including why we’re “crazy” enough to build in a high-risk area) head over to the post. Over here, we’re kicking off the first post in our Renovation Diaries series, because we have officially begun construction!

Since I’m going to have a lot to share about our Zuma Beach House project in the coming months, this will be the official spot where you can follow along. My hope is that, for those of you who are as design-obsessed as me, it will become a resource for your own renovation journeys, as well as a place for inspiration and ideas. We’ll be getting granular on the details: how we designed the kitchen island, exactly what materials we’re using in every space, and solving those tricky decisions that come up in every renovation project. And yes, I’ll be asking you to weigh in, too.

It feels right to begin with a birds-eye view: a zoomed-out look at how the house will change, what we’re keeping and what we’re changing, and an overview of the design style and references that have inspired us.

First, the “Before”

malibu house before

What to know about the current house:

 • 1950’s ranch-style bungalow—although it has some charming elements, this house is really all about the property.
 • 1,400 square feet with two bedrooms and two bathrooms
 • 600-square-foot guest house above the garage
 • The property is just under an acre overlooking Zuma Beach, with towering palm trees and lush citrus and avocado trees.
malibu house renovation-before

Issues with the current house:

 • A large electrical pole. It was smack dab in the center of our beach view. After two years of working with the city, we finally got it taken down and had the power lines buried. It was a major investment, but so worth it to open up the view.
 • No clear front entrance. While there technically is a front door, it’s been used by exactly zero people since we bought the house. When you pull into the driveway, the path leads you down a sidewalk straight to the back door. So, no one is quite sure whether to circle around to the front of the house, or enter straight into the door of our laundry room.
 • Lack of space. Aside from the awkward floor plan, we’re also lacking space in general. It’s a cozy fit for our family of four, so when family or friends come to stay with us, we’re bursting at the seams. There’s also nowhere for me and Adam to work (which is a problem when you both work from home), so one of us usually ends up taking calls from the bedroom while the other sits at the kitchen table with Air Pods in, praying that the kids won’t get into a fight in the meantime.
 • Closed-off rooms. If you’ve seen our Austin house, you know that Adam and I are big on an open layout. We gravitate toward an airy vibe, so a house made up of small rooms that are separated from each other makes us feel claustrophobic. We can’t wait to open this space up.
 • Low ceilings. In my opinion, low ceilings are one of the most concerning things about a house because they can be really difficult to change—and often, can lead to a house feeling dark and crowded. So, when we first considered the purchase of this house, making sure that we’d be able to raise the ceilings was a prerequisite. More on that later.
 • Tucked-away kitchen. For me, the kitchen is the heart and center of a home, so having a small kitchen awkwardly tucked into the corner of the house (with dated granite and cabinetry) was going to be the first thing to go in any renovation.

I gave a full tour of the old house here and answered a bunch of FAQs about the property and location, if you want to dive deeper.

The Renovation Plan

 • The addition: We’ll add a 1,000 square foot great room (a large open kitchen with living space). Our architect Doug brilliantly found a way to keep the original footprint of the current house, but we’ll rework the non-load-bearing walls to completely reimagine the interior floor plan.
 • Create a clear front entrance. As mentioned above, the current house lacks a clear entrance and leaves guests confused about where they should go. In the remodeled layout, we want anyone who arrives at the house to know exactly where to park, with a clear plan for how to enter. Did you know there’s an actual name for this topic? It’s wayfinding, and includes principles like creating “well-structured paths” and avoiding “too many navigational choices.” Not sure why I’m obsessed with this topic, but I find it endlessly fascinating.
 • Open floor plan. For the areas where we live, eat, and play together as a family, I prefer a wide-open space that preferably opens to the outdoors. If you keep reading, you’ll find out how we’re achieving that with a 1,000-square-foot addition that is basically one big kitchen.
 • Vaulted ceilings. When we considered purchasing this house, I knew that for the investment, we’d need to be able to raise the ceilings. Thankfully it wasn’t too complicated here, especially since we’re keeping it to one story. We’ll be vaulting the ceilings, which means that we’re extending into the triangular space between where a ceiling would normally sit and the top of the roof. This will not only help the rooms feel larger than they actually are, but it’ll also let more natural light into each space.
 • Room for guests. While we wanted to keep this a fairly modest-sized house, we also knew that this was a place we anticipated hosting family and friends for years to come. By adding a guest suite and a bunk room, we’d make room for an additional four to five people to stay with our family in the main house.
 • Big kitchen for entertaining. Since the kitchen is my happy place, I naturally want to be able to spend time in it surrounded by family and friends. I need a kitchen large enough to accommodate cooking projects, recipe photo shoots, and lots of people, since most dinner parties end up with everyone gathered around the island. Based on the current tucked-away corner kitchen, I knew this would require a complete reimagining of the space.
 • Natural light. The current house already has great light, but we knew that by raising the ceilings and adding more windows and doors to the back of the house, we could create an even more light-filled space.

The Style: Japandi Modern Beach House

Zuma Beach House Mood Board 1 - 1

We’re calling this a Japandi Modern Beach House because it combines the minimalism, clean lines, and natural materials of Scandinavian design with the warmth, tranquility, and focus on craftsmanship from Japanese design. Our priorities are simplicity, functionality, and harmony, bringing the indoors and outdoors together in a seamless flow. We want this house to feel like a sanctuary, using natural materials, neutral tones, and handcrafted details.

(Here’s another article I wrote about Japandi design and how to create it in your own home here.)

The Visualizations: Where We’re Headed

We’ve been working with the team at YouSee Studio to create realistic 3D renderings of our plans so we can truly visualize what we’re creating. I can’t recommend this process enough. Not only has it allowed us to make spacial decisions about the architecture, but being able to test out different materials and room layouts has already saved us from multiple decisions we would have regretted.

I can’t wait to share these visualizations of each space in the house as we go through the design process over the next few months—we’ll be able to look at different comparisons and options together as we make all those final decisions to bring the project to life.

Here’s the property overview that shows the new exterior. To the left, you can see the great room addition with the outdoor terrace. The right side is the existing house that becomes the bedrooms, bathrooms, and media room.

Features of our Japandi Modern Beach House:

It’s important to Adam and me that every element of this project is an intentional blend of beauty and functionality. Here are a few design decisions that are guiding the entire project:

Exterior Design:

 • Scandinavian-inspired wood cladding. We’re using beautiful redwood from Humboldt Sawmill Company in Northern California.
 • Large windows and doors that blur the lines between indoors and outdoors.
 • Corrugated metal roofing, adding a contemporary edge to the minimalist design.

Interior Materials:

 • Natural wood floors and cabinetry for warmth and texture. Our floors are by Stuga, a direct-to-consumer wood flooring company that’s based in the US and works with Scandinavian manufacturers.
 • Stone accent walls that ground the space and reflect the surrounding environment. I can’t wait to show you guys the stone that we chose from Eldorado Stone—it’s gorgeous and will be such a statement.
 • Simple, functional layouts that maximize space and light.
Zuma Beach House Exterior Visualization

Design Philosophy:

 • A focus on natural elements like olive and citrus trees, agave, and native grasses in the landscape.
 • A neutral color palette of black, wood, creamy plaster, concrete, and stone for a calming vibe.
 • An emphasis on craftsmanship and high-quality, long-lasting materials.

Overall Atmosphere:

 • A blend of Scandinavian hygge (coziness) with Japanese wabi-sabi (beauty in imperfection).
 • Spaces designed for peace, relaxation, and connection to nature.

Coffee table books tell a lot about a person. They hint at values, goals, or simply what someone finds interesting. My set features interior design, self care, and Taylor Swift. That says a lot about me!

If you’re a design lover, a curated collection of coffee table books is a great way to show off your passions and get inspired. They can be a source of ideas for a future design refresh, or a way to unwind during a quiet afternoon. And when they’re not in use, they make quite the stylish decor objects. Complete your set with 11 different coffee table books to choose from, including Camille’s picks. I’ve separated them by genre, ensuring there’s a little something for everyone.

Mediterranean Design

If salty air, crystal blue waters, and olive trees make you swoon, then pick up Camille’s choice of The Mediterranean Home. Mediterranean interior design is light and airy, inspired by the coastal lifestyle of seaside towns. This coffee table book tours homes set in locales like Greece, Portugal, and Italy, where indoor-outdoor living is a way of life. So if you’re looking to follow suit, this book could be perfect. But keep in mind that The Mediterranean Home is published in Europe, so the title on the spine will appear upside-down when laid flat on a surface.

Surf Shacks

The surfer lifestyle is famous for its laid-back feel and connection to nature, which appeals to anyone who lives near or far from the shore. Filled with eclectic homes nestled in beach towns, cabins in Hawaii, and even New York City apartments, Surf Shacks is all about how surfers live with the waves in mind. And even if you’ve never surfed, the aesthetic can still be for you. After all, who doesn’t love the look of an endless vacation? Stack these titles beneath shells, or keep them next to a worn-in leather chair—both are casually cool.

Modern Desert

Oasis: Modern Desert Homes Around The World is an ideal option for those drawn to the landscapes of New Mexico, Chile, Texas, and Peru. Camille’s home is full of modern desert design, as is Casa Zuma, so no wonder she suggests this book! The pages take a peek at sun-drenched homes with beautiful architecture in arid locations all over the world. This design style is all about honoring this aesthetic with warm whites, rich hues, and plenty of natural light.

Countryside Style

An English countryside home is utterly charming. Their famously lived-in details make small to large estates feel cozy. Camille likes Rural Retreats, a gorgeous look into countryside living. Unfortunately, it’s out of print, but there are other options that show the craftsmanship that country homes have in spades: overstuffed armchairs, walls full of books, and lots of vintage accents. If you’re craving cozy spaces, this is for you.

California Casual

Jake Arnold is an LA-based interior designer who blends California styling with classic European vibes. His coffee table book, Redefining Comfort, explores nine different projects that exemplify his casual-cool approach, including insights like mood boards, sketches, and swatches. In other words, California style lovers will take this as an informative and inspiring read.

Environment-Based Design

The best interiors often reflect their immediate surroundings. A lakeside cabin, a city loft, or a farmhouse has aesthetic opportunities baked in! Camille picks Sense of Place: Design Inspired By Where We Live for style that sticks close to home. Authors Caitlin Flemming and Julie Goebel showcase 20 examples and discuss how each one pulls from its distinct environment. This book will help take your own neighborhood into account during the design process.

I love the fresh start a new year brings. The air is ripe with goals, habits and ideas for the future—I can’t help but be inspired to reassess my life and my home. While many January goal setting sessions include categories like wellness, career and personal goals, I always like to include interior design goals in the mix as well. Even if your 2025 vision doesn’t necessarily include dinner parties or a kitchen reno, our environment plays such a huge factor in our overall mood and wellbeing. A well-organized home filled with pieces you love can help you stay focused, happy and at ease—all essential for making your dreams a reality. If you’re ready for a January home refresh, read on for a few ideas to help get you started.

Lulu and Georgia office makeover

Declutter

After the hustle and bustle of the holiday season, I find January is the perfect time to declutter your space. Especially since you’ve probably accumulated new items over the past few months, spend some time making room for holiday gifts. When you think of decluttering, I’m sure most of us probably have a space that comes to mind first (yeah, you know the one!). I recommend starting there. Whether it’s your closet, your pantry, kitchen cabinets, or even your inbox—block out a weekend morning to declutter. I recently went through my closet and made three different piles labeled cash (clothes to donate or sell), stash (clothes to put away for the season) and trash (clothes that can be tossed or recycled). I loved this organizing method and it only took about an hour.

Decluttering your entire home is a big ask in one month, however. Don’t feel pressure to do it all in just a few weeks. Make a list of projects and set a goal to tackle one each month, or even every two weeks.

Camille Styles cleaning

Deep Clean

A January home refresh wouldn’t be complete with a deep clean. I always feel like my house is brand new after it’s thoroughly cleaned. This is a perfect project once you’re done with some decluttering. You don’t have to scrub your entire home in one fell swoop, but picking a room a day could be a great way to get it done in about a week. Here’s a handy check-list to help you get going!

 • Kitchen: Disinfect all surfaces, wipe down cabinets, appliances and the stovetop, deep clean the oven, wipe the inside of the microwave, declutter the fridge and freezer, deep clean the dishwasher and garbage disposal
 • Living Room: Dust everywhere (surfaces, shelves, decor, frames etc.), vacuum the floors, wash throw blankets and pillows, vacuum and clean sofas and chairs
 • Bedroom: Wash all bedding, dust furniture and surfaces, declutter nightstands, wash curtains, rotate your mattress
 • Bathrooms: Deep clean the shower and tub, wash bath mats and towels, clean and disinfect the toilet, replace toothbrushes, wash and disinfect the trash can

Implement Organization Systems

In order to keep your home tidy, organization systems are key. Think labels and zones in your pantry, a designated shoe storage system in your entryway, or small organizers in your kitchen and bathroom drawers. It’s always a bummer to put major work into decluttering, only to have your space go back to being a mess (speaking from experience!). Take time to invest in simple organization tools. Containers, a label maker or hooks for the wall will keep your space neat and tidy for a January home refresh that will last all year long.

Update Your Decor

Breathing new life into your space can go beyond cleaning and organizing—why not sprinkle in some new decor while you’re at it? I love walking through my home at the beginning of the year and making a list of little design projects I’d like to tackle. A decor refresh can include small touches that won’t break the bank, like new pillows, frames or throws. I love cozy lighting, especially in the winter, and updating lamps can be a nice touch. Even something as simple as a bouquet of flowers on your table or swapping out the pictures in your frames are perfect for your January home refresh.

Candlelit dinner, Santa fe hygge

Embrace The Season

Winter is a time to settle in and cozy up. Adding seasonal touches to your home will keep you and your loved ones happy and warm indoors. Consider adding a winter home fragrance like citrus or cedar. A homemade simmer pot with orange slices, apples, cranberries, cinnamon sticks and rosemary sprigs will fill your home with a gorgeous winter aroma. Keep a few twinkle lights out from the holiday, and layer fluffy textiles like faux furs and knits. I personally keep faux garland out through January since it doesn’t scream holiday and it makes me happy. You can also never go wrong with candles. Candlelight reminds me of hygge, or the Danish tradition of finding comfort in coziness. To really turn your home into a hygge hideaway, burn multiple candles at once. To reduce the risk of a fire, use battery operated ones instead. They still give off an ambient glow!

Set Intentions

Refreshing your home can be tied to your new year intentions. Take a moment to consider how your space can support you and your goals for the new year. Perhaps you have a reading goal—why not do a little rearranging and create a cozy reading nook? If wellness is on your mind, dedicate a corner for meditation or declutter your kitchen so you can tackle your cooking goals with ease. Or it can be as simple as displaying your vision board in a place where you’ll see it often. Investing in a home upgrade that will make your life easier is a fantastic January home refresh idea. The simple act of creating space in your home for your dreams can help get you there faster. Create an environment where it’s easy to do the things you want to do, and watch as the magic unfolds.

Rearrange

A cost-free way to add new energy to a space is to simply rearrange it. I rearranged my bedroom last year and moved the bed to the opposite wall and it made all the difference. It felt like an entirely new room! If there’s a spot in your home that doesn’t feel quite right—approach it with new eyes and focus on having fun. Play around with new arrangements, then try one out for a week and see how you like it. If there’s a room with a problem, ask yourself how you can solve it. My husband and I moved our bed because it was against a closet. We weren’t able to open the door all the way, and I got to a point where I was just sick of it. A simple swap made it happen!

Starting January in a refreshed, peaceful home is a great start to the new year. Our outer world is a reflection of our inner world, after all. If you’re yearning for calm, let your home be your guide. Here’s to falling in love with your space this year!

The start of a new year brings fresh design trends, including exciting paint colors for 2025. While you don’t need to overhaul your entire home, embracing a fresh coat of paint is an easy and affordable way to give your space a new look. Paint has a powerful impact on any room, making it the perfect way to bring a new vibe into your home in the coming year.

We turned to designers for the paint colors and styles they say will come out on top in the year ahead, and we’re pretty excited about these predictions. Why not go a little bolder and more vibrant at home—or try a warm neutral if you always go for color? No matter your aesthetic, you can infuse your space with fun by trying any one of the trending looks below.

Photo by Brian Wetzel for our home tour with Far Studio.

Color Drenching

Going all in with one color on the walls, trim, and ceiling—otherwise known as color drenching—will continue to be big next year, according to many designers.

“The paint can be all the same sheen, or, my personal favorite way to do it, is different sheens on the three different surfaces,” explains Suzan Wemlinger, the founder of Suzan J Designs. “Take things a step further and color drench a room using lacquer—now that would be a statement room!”

Pops of Chartreuse

Say hello to vibrant green in 2025. Amy Youngblood, the founder of Amy Youngblood Interiors, is all about going bold with chartreuse. “Chartreuse is a unique combination of yellow and green that is energizing but not too bright,” she says. “I think it adds a backdrop of fun and tropicality to a room, especially when pairing it with more neutral-based furniture.”

Painted Trim

On a related note, Kerri Pilchik, the founder of Kerri Pilchik Design, agrees that painting trim in the same or a similar color as the walls is going to be an increasingly popular technique. “White trim now looks almost unfinished in a room,” she says, noting that painting the trim in a different finish than the walls—such as full gloss—is a smart move.

Kelley Gable, the founder of Gable Interiors, also believes that contrast and accent trim will reign supreme. “Gone are the days of an accent wall and in its place is accent trim,” she says.

Two-Tone Cabinetry

Spice things up a bit in your kitchen with a new cabinetry approach. “We’ll see an explosion of dual-toned painted cabinetry,” notes Melissa Oholendt, the founder of Oho Interiors. She’s referring to instances where the cabinet fronts are painted one color and their insides are a contrasting color, or one color is used on a cabinet door or drawer front and molding trim in another color complements it. “We’ve seen this done on furniture for years now but it has started to make its way into built-in pieces and I couldn’t love it more,” the designer says.

Pretty Purple

People won’t be shying away from purple next year, either, shares Sallie Lord, the founder of GreyHunt Interiors. “Purple is coming in hot,” she says. “Mixed with colors like chartreuse, greens, yellows, and more, it’s a strong debut for this coming year.”

Wemlinger foresees a greater use of aubergine, plum, purple, and mauve next year. “It’s not for everyone, but when it’s the right call for a room, it can make a big impact,” she says. “I think consumers are ready for color but don’t necessarily want ultra bold or bright colors; they still want to be able to come home to their sanctuary and relax.”

Lots of Light Green

Green, in many different forms but especially in lighter shades, will be majorly making waves next year, Lord says. “Mint greens and green teals are coming in strong.” Embrace the classic coastal-inspired look no matter where you live by weaving one of these shades into your home.

Should You Go Dark? Tips for Painting Your Space a Deeper Shade https://camillestyles.com/design/design-trends/moody-paint-colors/ https://camillestyles.com/design/design-trends/moody-paint-colors/#respond Mon, 23 Dec 2024 19:22:51 +0000 https://camillestyles.com/?p=287328

Embrace the drama.

The post Should You Go Dark? Tips for Painting Your Space a Deeper Shade appeared first on Camille Styles.

]]>

Almost a year ago, I decided to take my living room walls from a crisp white to a deep, moody blue (Benjamin Moore Midnight, to be exact), and I haven’t looked back. Moody paint colors can completely transform a space, bringing depth, drama, and dimension—especially in small New York City apartments like mine. While dark walls aren’t for everyone, they offer a bold alternative to the neutrals we see everywhere these days. Plus, if you’re a renter like me, paint is an affordable way to make your space feel more custom without worrying about your security deposit. It’s the easiest way to feel like you’ve moved into a brand-new home without going anywhere!

If you’ve been thinking about painting your space a darker color but are wavering a bit, that’s understandable, too. Here, you’ll find valuable tips from interior design pros regarding everything you need to think about when it comes to dark paint. But remember: it really is just paint—if you change your mind in six months, so be it!

Be Mindful About Stopping Points

If you’re going dark in a room that’s part of an open floor plan, this tip from designer Anna Baraness is a key one. “It’s important to consider the starting and stopping points of the dark paint as it transitions into the adjacent spaces, especially if those adjacencies are painted a light color,” the founder of Studio AK Interiors explains. “Ideally there is a cased opening, corner bead, or other architectural detail that creates a natural stopping point and logical transition to a different wall color,” she says.

Look to Your Room’s Size and Lighting

Dark paint colors are by no means one size fits all. “Bright spaces thrive with bold blues or greens for drama, while warm browns or plums bring cozy vibes to dimmer rooms,” explains Elle Cole, the founder of Elle Cole Interiors. Of course, anyone taking on a paint project should always pick up swatches of the shades they’re considering and take note of how they appear at different times of day prior to committing to a color.

Color Drench

Sarah McCarty, the founder of Sarah McCarty Interiors, likes the idea of color drenching a room with a deep hue, painting the walls, ceiling, and trim all in one shade. “Change the sheen to add some dimension,” she says. “This not only creates a cohesive look, but a major vibe shift!”

Add Wainscoting

On the other hand, maybe you’re not ready to go all in with a dark color. In this instance, you can always add wainscoting to create a two-toned look, notes Rebecca Ward. Doing so will “break up the dark wall color,” she says, though keep in mind that it’s a tactic better left to those who own, not rent! “This approach works beautifully in dining rooms,” adds the founder of Rebecca Ward Design

Decorate Like a Pro

You’ll want the furniture and accessories you choose for your space to nicely complement the dark paint color you select. “Pair dark walls with light furniture and rich textures to keep the space striking yet inviting,” Cole offers.

Metallics and prints also make for great accents. McCarty recommends going for metallic-colored statement art, throw pillows, or window treatments, adding in some warm-toned lighting, and bringing in a patterned rug to round out a room with dark walls.

6 Things Experts Always Declutter For a Cozy Home This Winter https://camillestyles.com/design/things-to-declutter-before-winter/ https://camillestyles.com/design/things-to-declutter-before-winter/#respond Thu, 19 Dec 2024 11:00:00 +0000 https://camillestyles.com/?p=287705 Camille Styles living room.

Consider this your home organizing checklist.

Seasonal shifts are the perfect time for decluttering. As winter settles in and the temperatures dip, our needs at home shift as well. Heavy coats, snow boots, winter skincare, and holiday decor are just a few items that make their way out of hiding—which can be cause for a good reshuffle. You might as well take stock of items you know and love, as well as the items you may be ready to part with. Ahead, I chatted with a few professional organizers to get their recommendations on things to declutter before winter. Read on for the only organizing checklist you’ll need this season!

Camille bedroom, making the bed

Refresh Your Linen Closet

Easy breezy summer bedding can be tucked away for the next few months as you pull out your flannel sheets and extra blankets. Carol Appelbaum, founder of Luxury Pro Organizer in Houston Texas, recommends sorting through your linens as you transition to cold weather items. “Winter is a great time to declutter and donate gently used towels, sheets, and blankets that no longer suit your needs,” she shares. “Rearrange the closet so that your favorite winter linens are easily accessible, making it a breeze to create a snug and inviting bed on chilly nights.”

Want to make your bed extra cozy amidst your decluttering sesh? “While rotating your linens, take the opportunity to wash or fluff the blankets in the dryer!” Appelbaum suggests.

Check In With Your Medicine Cabinet

Winter not only brings a chill to the air, it’s also the beginning of cold and flu season. Appelbaum suggests decluttering your medicine cabinet. This can bring you peace of mind, just in case you or your family members become sick. “Safely dispose of expired medications, cough syrups, and supplements. Then, inventory essential cold care items like pain relievers, decongestants, and throat lozenges and restock as needed,” she shares.

A well-stocked medicine cabinet will save you from last-minute trips to Target during potential inclement weather. Plus, I never want to go anywhere when I’m feeling lousy. Prepare yourself now so you’ll be ready if illness strikes!

Declutter Holiday Items

You should absolutely consider holiday decor as things to declutter before winter. Now is the time to sort through your decorations, and set aside any decor you’re ready to part with. If you’re decluttering your items in December, Sarah Dunn of Ready Set Organize suggests donating your items as soon as you can. “Most nonprofits and churches would love to receive these donations as soon as possible, so they can go to a home that would use them this season,” she shares. Since there can be an influx of holiday donations in January (along with the potential of turning donations away), set aside your decluttered holiday items and wait until next year to donate them in November. Just be sure to discard anything broken like ornaments or string lights.

Letting go of holiday items you’ve outgrown will create more space for the decor you love, which in turn will make decorating for the season more enjoyable. Not to mention, storing it all will be easier as well!

Overhaul Your Coat Closet

Coming and going can look a bit different once it’s cold outside. Your entryway is potentially full of things to declutter before winter, and your coat closet will finally be of good use again. Take the time to sort through all of your winter outerwear. “Consider donating coats, scarves, or sweaters that no longer fit or are not getting much use,” Aaron Traub, owner and lead organizer at My Professional Organizer says. “Decluttering makes it easier to grab your favorite pieces on chilly mornings without sorting through unnecessary extras.”

Dunn recommends going through your snow gear as well, especially if you have children. “Most kids outgrow their winter gear every one to two years, so make sure to donate or sell what no longer fits to make room for the new gear you’ll purchase,” she shares.

Organize Your Pantry

Cozying up with a bowl of soup and a crusty piece of bread is one of my favorite parts of the season. A streamlined pantry will make winter meal prep and holiday hosting a breeze. “Checking for expired items or unused food makes room for holiday baking essentials and meal staples,” Traub says. “A quick refresh can save you time and frustration during the busier months ahead.”

As you sort through your pantry, discard anything expired and set aside food that can be donated. “The holiday season is an excellent time to donate unused, unexpired, non-perishables to local food banks,” Appelbaum notes. As you place items back into your pantry, be sure you’ve categorized your items so it makes things easy to find. There’s nothing more satisfying than an organized pantry!

Sort Through Toys and Games

“With the holidays approaching, it can be a good idea to declutter toys and games,” Traub says. Since this time of year is primed for gifts, preparing your home for an influx of new items will be helpful for staying organized. “Remove anything broken, missing pieces, or items your kids have simply outgrown,” Traub continues. “This will make room for new gifts and keeps things from feeling overwhelming after the holidays.”

Just like adults, children can become overwhelmed with clutter or having too many options in front of them at once. Stick with the toys you and your children love. As you sort through items and find you’re on the fence about a toy or game, put it in a bin, then tuck it away for a month. If the toy gets asked about, you can have it ready, but if not—it’s probably safe to donate.

My ideal December reset day includes dreaming up home projects for the new year. All of this scheming goes hand in hand with design trend predictions, naturally. As someone who writes about interiors, I love chatting with designers during this time of year to get their take on what’s to come. According to them, we’re moving full steam ahead toward comfort, wellness, and personalized spaces at home, and I for one, am here for it.

Ahead, see what 2025 design trends the pros are predicting will be big in the year ahead. From elevated textures, creamy neutrals, and bold color palettes, there’s truly something for everyone in 2025.

Warm Minimalism

Since brown has been having a moment all year, it came as no surprise when Pantone announced 2025’s color of the year, Mocha Mousse. Creamy neutrals like Mocha Mousse create inviting, beautiful, luxe spaces and Stephanie Wiott of Stephanie Wiott Designs is predicting warm color palettes paired with minimalism will be everywhere next year. “Minimalism in 2025 isn’t about stripping everything down to the bare essentials. It’s about embracing simplicity with warmth and texture,” she shares. “We’re leaning into creamy beiges, terracotta accents, and organic materials like raw wood and stone.”

Does this trend sound vaguely familiar? Camille has embraced warm minimalism for years. Her home embodies warmth and coziness, and her spaces ooze comfort without chaos. Consider decluttering your space and adding natural materials and textures to your home in 2025 if warm minimalism sounds alluring.

Wellness Spaces

An at-home spa? Yes, please! Many 2025 design trends are focused on self-care and well-being—think saunas, cold plunge rooms, and steam showers. “Everyone is looking for spa-like indulgences in the comfort of their home,” Nicole Hirsch of Nicole Hirsch Interiors states. “People are seeking to carve out spaces in their basements to create these little retreats.”

Ever since the pandemic, the desire to stay home hasn’t wavered. The goal has become to stay put and create luxurious spaces with wellness amenities at home. In addition to at-home spas, home gyms, yoga rooms, and meditation spaces continue to be popular. Ah, bliss.

Arched doorway, butlers pantry

Soft Curves and Organic Shapes

One trend that is especially striking is the rise of curved edges. “We’re moving away from sharp lines and rigid forms toward furniture and decor with soft, organic shapes,” Wiott says. Distancing ourselves from straight, uniform lines pairs perfectly with peaceful, cozy environments that encourage us to sit back and unwind.

“Curved sofas, arched doorways, and sculptural lighting create an approachable, relaxing atmosphere,” Wiott continues. “These shapes inspire comfort and ease—something we value deeply when designing spaces.”

Comfort and Durability

Gone are the days where rooms at home feel fancy, stuffy, and reserved for special occasions. 2025 design trends are all about marrying comfort and style. “More than ever, clients are requiring their homes to be not only visually appealing, but for the pieces to be comfortable and durable,” Hirsch says. “It’s not an either or. With the vast range of performance fabrics and durable metals, stones, and wood finishes, your furniture should check all the boxes.”

There are plenty of options for comfy, high-quality textiles that are built for wear and tear. Textured neutrals especially, will be everywhere, according to Hirsch. “May this trend never go away,” she says. “Combinations of luxe fabrics and finishes create a serene environment.”

Statement Stonework

All three designers I chatted with predict that stoneware will be incredibly popular in 2025, but with a twist. “Colorful natural stones will be front and center, appearing in furniture, countertops, and accessories to add vibrance,” Danielle Chiprut of Danielle Rose Design Co. shares.Expect to see kitchens and bathrooms incorporating stones like onyx, green marble, or colorful quartzite to create unexpected focal points that blend organic appeal with striking hues.”

Wiott agrees. “Stone is no longer confined to countertops—it’s becoming a bold design statement,” she says. “Whether used for floors, feature walls, or sculptural pieces, veined marbles, and textured stones bring elegance and movement into interiors.”

In search of more ideas for statement stonework? “We are really leaning in on using one-of-a-kind marble slabs not just in bathrooms or kitchens, but on furniture pieces and bars—unique color stones with bold lines,” Hirsch recommends.

Kate Wit and Delight, living room

Bold, Saturated Colors

Even as warm neutrals continue to be popular, 2024 brought a resurgence of color and maximalism that is here to stay. “Deep, saturated tones like forest green, midnight blue, and aubergine will dominate in 2025,” Wiott states. “We layer textures within these palettes to create intimate, reflective spaces—perfect for bedrooms, libraries, or studies.”

Allowing your personality to shine through your home is always on trend, but playing with color, jewel tones specifically, will be especially popular in 2025. These dramatic shades will show up on feature walls, upholstery, and even art pieces, infusing spaces with energy and personality,” Chiprut says. “It’s all about making a statement while adding warmth and sophistication.”

camille's malibu house-before-dining

Artisan, Hand-Crafted Furniture

Maximalism lends itself to highly personalized spaces, but there are other ways to infuse your own unique touch. Namely, custom furniture designed specifically for your home. “We’re seeing a huge push toward pieces that are hand-crafted and look as such,” Hirsch says. “Think gorgeous custom wood stains, organic shapes, and pieces specially made to fit a space.”

Customized furniture can make your house feel like a home, especially knowing you own a one-of-a-kind piece. Connect with local artisans to design a piece of furniture you love, or be on the lookout for makers who work with natural materials. Casa Zuma is a wonderful example, as they design and source beautiful handmade products.

When it comes to answering the “What should I bake, decorate, DIY, or do today?” question, there’s no shortage of inspiration to spark creativity. As the holidays approach and I dive into food prepping, gift wrapping, and making the house feel warm and inviting, I find myself most excited about setting the table for the big Christmas day meal. With the season in full swing, I’m gathering all the Christmas table setting ideas to make this year’s celebration extra special.

8 Christmas Table Setting Ideas to Elevate Your Holiday Meal

I’m sure many of you agree that there’s nothing better than pairing delicious food with a stunning setting (plus, all the loved ones you can fit around your table). When all is said and done, the real reason we go to the effort of dressing up our homes for the holidays is to get cozy with friends and family. While presence is key, I love to document all the fun to be had in the form of way too many photos. An aesthetically pleasing backdrop to all that merrymaking is just the icing on the cake.

Whether you’re going for minimalist, whimsical, or farmhouse-chic, you’ll find exactly what you’re looking for here. I’ve rounded up my favorite Christmas table setting ideas for all the inspo you need.

Neutral & Natural Christmas table setting ideas

Neutral & Natural

If you want to make your guests feel like they just stepped into the chicest Christmas-themed fairytale possible, here’s your answer. I love the balance of a neutral palette mixed with a tangle of fresh and varied greenery for natural vibrancy. Everyone at your table is guaranteed to feel right at home (while simultaneously wondering if they were magically transported to Denmark for dinner).

Handmade-Chic

I can certainly get on board with a picture-perfect holiday home. Satisfying symmetry and coordinated colors are a balm for my Type A soul, but as I learn to embrace the principles of wabi-sabi, I’m all about finding the magic in the inexact, impermanent, and incomplete. While I appreciate the beauty of aesthetically-pleasing decor, nothing comes close to the pleasure of embracing a perfectly imperfect vibe.

Scandinavian-Inspired

There’s a reason we’re all a little more than obsessed with Scandinavian design, food, and philosophy. With comfort and consolation at the center of this way of being, it’s no wonder the approach to decor puts you immediately at ease. The incorporation of unexpected florals, a monochromatic place setting, and a few small taper lights dotted across the table is pure low-key holiday dinner magic. Warm hues are the driving forces of this color palette, helping you drift off to a Danish-inspired dreamland.

Farmhouse Christmas

Looking at this picture alone transports me immediately to the New England countryside, with idyllic images of a snow-white holiday, carolers, and a Christmas Kringle for breakfast dancing about in my head. If that sentence alone perfectly encapsulates your ideal Christmas, let this table be your guide. This table is all about streamlined, easy-to-recreate simplicity. Simple florals in a white pitcher, rattan accents, and texture is key to making it happen.

Whimsically Woodland

Here, the interplay of textures and aesthetics feels wonderfully classic and cohesive. This table evokes a harmonious sense of peace by weaving green into the garland and place settings. I love the woven chairs to accent the natural vibe and the linen tablecloth to tie everything together.

Minimalist & Monochromatic

While black and white can seem a little stark, this table does an impressive job of weaving a little whimsy into its composition. Wine glasses in an unexpected shape and modern taper holders offer a dynamic display and set the stage for a beautiful meal. And remember: when the food looks this good, you’re more than welcome to have it double as a centerpiece.

A Not-So-White Christmas

If you’re not waking up to snow on Christmas morning this year, why not keep the dream alive indoors? A winter white table gets a little interest and festive flair from pomegranates and a runner of greenery (with a little more woven into the place setting just because). How’s the song go again? I’m dreaming of a white Christmas…

Forest Vibes

This year, Camille’s Christmas decor is all about pairing a neutral color palette with a natural, from-the-forest aesthetic. While artificial accents can sometimes be a necessity, this look achieved a woodsy vibe with all the real greenery, long tapered candles, and natural DIY place settings for good measure. With a fire quietly crackling in the background, you might just think you’re in the middle of the forest yourself.

If there’s one thing we love at Camille Styles HQ, it’s a beautifully set table. The holiday season is a time for gathering, and it begs for a lush garland, twinkly lights and drippy candles amid heartfelt conversations and mouthfuls of delicious food. If you’re in search of Christmas day table decoration ideas, look no further. Ahead, we’ll dive into Camille’s own holiday tables through the years and break down each look so you can create it yourself this December. Read on and prepare to be inspired!

Layer in Lots of Texture

Camille’s spaces are always full of cozy textures, and the same goes for her tablescapes. Here, she layers lots of nature-inspired pieces to give her table the iconic rustic elegance she’s known for. To create the look yourself, add garland down the center of your table and opt for woven placemats. Gold flatware, neutral ceramics, and linen napkins all radiate warmth, creating an inviting table that looks sophisticated, yet casual. To top it off, add a few taper candles to make your table glow. The flickering candlelight will be especially cozy if you dim the lights in your kitchen.

Keep it Minimal

While some might say the holiday season is far from simple, Christmas day table decoration ideas don’t have to be complicated. Greenery is abundant during this time of year, and you really don’t have to do much to make it beautiful. For a chic and minimal holiday table, start with a linen table throw and don’t worry about the wrinkles—they’re perfectly imperfect. Next, add real garland in lieu of a table runner. Nothing beats the smell and feel of fresh greenery, and it will last all season long. Plus, you won’t have to peek around a large centerpiece to talk to your loved one across the table. Keep your place settings simple with neutral dinnerware, and don’t forget to add place cards and a sprig from the garland for extra elegance.

Make it Glow

Christmas day table decoration ideas absolutely include lighting, and there’s nothing cozier than dining at a table lined with candles. Not to mention a roaring fire close by! Camille opted for tall, dark candle holders for her holiday table this year with white taper candles. Be sure to use candle holders with varying heights to create some asymmetry, and add small votive candles for even more glow. Candlelight makes any dinner party special, but I’d say they’re a necessity for the holiday season. Who doesn’t want more twinkly lights on Christmas?

Add Pops of Color

Camille loves neutrals, but that doesn’t mean she shies away from color. For this tablescape, she incorporates ruby red pomegranates that look beautiful tied in with the greenery. It’s the perfect pop of something unexpected, yet totally charming. Looking to nature is always the best place for inspiration, and Camille incorporated cinnamon sticks to this tablescape as well. You can see them in the garland and in the place settings! If you like this look, don’t be afraid to use other in-season fruit for your own holiday table. Let yourself be inspired by winter citrus, cranberries or pears—they all would look stunning.

Simple Is Best

There’s usually enough stress to go around once you’ve hit the final month of the year, and setting your holiday table shouldn’t add to it. This tablescape by Devon Liedtke is the perfect example of beautiful simplicity. She lets the natural colors and textures of her table shine—from the table itself to the food on the plates. No need to fret if you don’t have linens or garland, this table proves you can do without. A gorgeous floral arrangement graces the center of her table, along with simple place settings. The food looks delicious and unfussy. To create this look yourself, simply use what you have, embrace simplicity and take a deep exhale. The magic of the season, afterall, is in the gathering.

25 DIY Christmas Decorations to Bring the Festivity Home

When the final month of the year hits, you can catch me crafting ornaments, homemade gifts, and garlands of all stripes. As I type away, I have dried oranges cooling on the stovetop and just put up my ornamental stars in the windows. During this season of holiday markets, Christmas movie marathons, and abundant baking, it can be gratifying to contribute to the festivities with a little handmade, festive flair.

So let’s get to making that magic together. Below, I’m sharing my favorite DIY Christmas decorations that I found through my hours of Pinterest scrolling (please tell me you can relate). They span minimalist and maximalist aesthetics, traditional Scandinavian designs, and advent calendars you won’t believe you made yourself. Let the crafting begin!

Upcycled Velvet Christmas Trees from Creative Gen

It’s a sustainable, stylish way to bring cozy charm to your holiday decorations.

DIY Dried Orange Wreath from The Merrythought

Dried oranges are a holiday staple, and we love all of the many ways they can show up in your holiday decor. Take, for example, this sweet and simple wreath. It makes an aesthetic statement—while also showcasing the season’s biggest trend. Bows!

DIY Modern Advent Calendar - diy christmas decorations

Still don’t have your advent calendar up yet? Gather the minimal materials list and get crafting. This sweet little calendar lets you hide a small treat in each pouch. A piece of candy, a little loving note—anything! Let the season’s magic inspire you.

DIY Air Dry Clay Christmas Village from Alice & Lois

If your Pinterest feed looks anything like ours, then it’s likely filled with tons of white DIY Christmas villages. And while the majority look complex with all the cutting and glue, this one couldn’t be easier. Air-dry clay makes it happen.

3D Cardboard Stars from Collective Gen

This creative DIY is a brilliant way to use the (many) boxes that clutter our homes during the holiday season. It turns simple materials into stunning, geometric holiday decor. Using recycled cardboard, paint, and a few easy steps, you can craft stars perfect for hanging or tabletop displays. It’s an eco-friendly way to add festive charm to your home this season.

DIY Gold Wreath & Gold Garland by Sugar & Cloth

For a more formal, gilded look, go with this gold wreath and garland pairing. It adds such a lovely sparkle either indoors or out. The hardest part of this DIY Christmas decorating is braving the cold to spray the paint outside.

Heirloom Advent Calendar DIY - diy christmas decorations

Heirloom Advent Calendar DIY from A Beautiful Mess

Kiddos will delight in this stocking-filled advent calendar. The pastel stockings and unfinished wood give it a rustic, approachable look that adds so much character to any holiday set-up. This is a DIY that you’ll be sure to put up year after year.

Fluted Christmas Tree - diy christmas decorations

Fluted Christmas Tree from Collective Gen

If you’re skipping the real tree this year but don’t want to splurge on a faux option (they can be pricey!), go the DIY route. I love the Nordic vibe of this fluted tree that draws upon one of the year’s biggest design trends in a creative way. Are you ready for the secret to this gorgeous Christmas craft? Roller blinds!

DIY Colorful Christmas Village from Studio DIY

Paper bag stars are everywhere right now. I’d like to think it’s because they’re beautiful while also being incredibly easy to make. If you have a pack of paper bags, glue, scissors, a hole punch, and string, then you’re ready to go. Stars look beautiful hung in the windows or staggered together above the dining room table.

DIY Advent Calendar From Honestly WTF

For those who prefer a more streamlined aesthetic, decorating for the holidays can present a challenge. How do you deck the halls in a way that’s festive without going over the top? Can there be lots of cheer without red-and-green everything? The answer is yes, of course. Festive is in the eye of the beholder, but given that most Christmas trees are decked to the nines, it can be hard to discover a more contemporary look. So in an effort to speak to the modern aesthetic, we culled the best modern Christmas tree ideas.

Modern Christmas Tree Ideas to Inspire Your Holiday

If you’re looking for a fresh take on your holiday decor, you’re in the right place. Modern Christmas tree ideas blend simplicity with style, creating a look that feels both festive and sophisticated. Whether you lean toward minimalist designs or prefer a more nature-inspired approach, there’s a modern tree idea that can transform your space without overwhelming it. From sleek, geometric trees to understated decorations that highlight natural textures, these ideas offer the perfect balance of elegance and holiday spirit, making your tree the star of the season.

Simple Sparkle

This neutral Christmas tree, nestled in a basket tree stand, exudes effortless elegance with its minimalistic charm. The crystal garland adds a touch of sparkle, elevating the natural tones and creating a serene, festive atmosphere. For a similar look, opt for a basket base to ground your tree with rustic warmth and choose translucent or glass ornaments for a delicate, modern twist. Layering in soft metallics or frosted accents will enhance the sophisticated, understated vibe of the decor.

Snow White

A flocked tree adorned with glass ornaments of varying sizes creates a striking, serene look. The neutral color palette of the ornaments complements the soft, snowy branches of the flocked tree, enhancing its frosty, elegant feel. For a similar effect, opt for a mix of glass ornaments in subtle tones like clear, frosted, or soft metallics, allowing the tree’s texture to shine while maintaining a cohesive aesthetic. This combination offers a modern, timeless vibe perfect for creating a calming holiday atmosphere.

Modern Warmth

This tree, with its white ceramic house ornaments, wooden bead garlands, and felt accents, beautifully balances a three-tone color palette for a warm, modern aesthetic. The natural textures contrast elegantly with the crisp white of the ceramic houses, creating a whimsical yet sophisticated look. To replicate this style, focus on a cohesive color scheme with neutral tones. Incorporate handmade elements like felt or wooden beads to add warmth and personality to your tree while keeping the overall design fresh and contemporary.

Woodland Charm

Velvet ribbon bows add texture, while white sparkly globe ornaments shine. Battery-operated candles bring a soft glow, enhancing the rustic yet refined look. To recreate this, choose rich velvet ribbons and soft, shimmering ornaments. Incorporate natural elements like candles for a cozy, inviting atmosphere.

Charlie Brown Redux

This tree offers a modern twist on the classic Charlie Brown look with a minimalist feel. Tinsel icicle ornaments and a pared-back palette of black and glass create a chic contrast. Twinkling fairy lights add a soft shimmer, bringing the tree to life. Choose sparse branches, simple ornaments, and delicate lighting for an understated yet striking holiday centerpiece.

Jewel Box

This tree embraces a maximalist yet refined aesthetic with deep jewel-toned globe ornaments in blue and burgundy. Gold-framed ornaments and an array of charming accents fill the tree, creating a rich, festive vibe. Despite the abundance of details, the cohesive color palette keeps the look balanced and inviting. To recreate this, mix vibrant jewel tones with metallic touches, layering in thoughtful ornaments that complement each other without overwhelming the design. Twinkling lights will highlight the depth of color and texture.

Classic With a Twist

This classic tree adds a modern twist with rich red velvet bows and a blend of crimson and gold ornaments. Shimmery bead garlands bring a touch of elegance, complementing the tree’s festive charm. The combination of luxe textures and timeless colors creates a sophisticated yet inviting look. For a similar effect, opt for plush velvet ribbons, metallic ornaments, and sparkling garlands to elevate the tree while maintaining a traditional holiday feel with a contemporary edge.

Small but Stylish

This mini tree, nestled in a woven basket, captures a charming yet minimalistic holiday vibe. Silver starburst ornaments, minimalist wire stars, and white wood stars create a lovely contrast against the soft glow of fairy lights. The combination of textures and subtle details adds visual interest without overwhelming the tree’s simple elegance. To achieve this look, focus on clean lines, subtle ornaments, and soft lighting for a serene, modern holiday display.

A Minimalist Holiday Table Inspired by Nature—Here’s How to Recreate It at Home https://camillestyles.com/design/holiday-table-inspiration/ https://camillestyles.com/design/holiday-table-inspiration/#respond Tue, 03 Dec 2024 11:00:00 +0000 https://camillestyles.com/?p=285885 Camille Styles holiday table inspiration

The holiday table is where memorable moments come to life—where meals are shared, and conversations linger into the evening. This year, I’m embracing a minimalist, nature-inspired design to create a table that feels both elegant and effortless. For pieces that weave seamlessly into the aesthetic, I stock up at Target, our partner for today’s post. From elevated dinnerware to thoughtfully curated decor, Target has everything you need to create a holiday table that feels warm and inviting. Ahead, I’m sharing holiday table inspiration to get you ready for festive feasts ahead.

Holiday Table Inspiration: Elegant, Minimalist, and Nature-Inspired

The key to this holiday table is leaning into neutral hues and natural textures. Think linen napkins, earthy stoneware plates, and subtle greenery. These elements add warmth and visual interest without being overwhelming. Pair them with elegant, functional pieces, like flatware or woven chargers. The end result is a holiday table that feels just sophisticated enough to still create a welcoming atmosphere for guests to linger and enjoy.

To help my table come to life, I selected pieces that combine both style and function. From Target’s curated collection, each item elevates the table without any fuss. Whether you’re hosting a casual dinner or a larger holiday feast, this aesthetic brings understated elegance and rustic charm to your gathering.

Table-setting tip: For ease and visual impact, layer a garland of pine and greenery down the length of your table. This saves guests from trying to talk over taller floral arrangements—and it’s a one-and-done centerpiece. To give it more of a woodland feel, stagger taper candles or tea lights along the garland.

Table-setting tip: I love a simple place card. During the holiday season, a single sprig of pine or rosemary weaves nature into the setting, echoing the garland and wreaths.

Table-setting tip: To make life easier for yourself as the hostess, fill water glasses before guests sit down. When they arrive, greet them with a welcome drink like a simple glass of champagne or Prosecco. Then, set out bottles of red, white, and your favorite non-alcoholic options for everyone to help themselves as they please.

You can shop the entire look on my Target storefront, where you’ll find all of my favorite Target buys for every space.

For some, the day after Thanksgiving means shopping Black Friday sales. While I love taking part in a good deal—who doesn’t?—for me, the last Friday in November is always the start of the Christmas season. You can catch me putting out my decor early in the AM (following a slice of pecan pie for breakfast, of course). I’m busy swapping out my home’s autumnal color palette for something a bit more holiday-appropriate. We’re talking all the silvers, reds, golds, and greens.

20 Outdoor Christmas Decorations Ideas to Make Your Home Merry & Bright

In the frenzy of making my space a winter wonderland, I sometimes get so caught up in decking the indoor halls that I forget about the all-important outdoor decor. Well, not this year. I’ve made 2024 all about spreading joy and bringing holiday cheer to everyone—and I’m putting as much time into my outdoor set-up as I am indoors. Camille Styles front porch holiday decor

Whether you’re working with a sprawling, wrap-around patio or a small stoop in front of the door, coming up with front porch Christmas decorating ideas can be a challenge. After all, it’s the part of your home you present to the world—like a holiday style thesis statement. To help you nail the art of the chic, festive front porch (and hopefully save you a bit of money), we’ve gathered top-tier inspiration and expert input to guide you on your merry way.

8 Front Porch Christmas Decorating Ideas For a Festive Exterior

When it comes to front porch Christmas decorating ideas, the vibe in 2024 is less is more. And in keeping with our natural, earthy vibe here at Camille Styles, we’ll be opting for an organic and understated approach. From the designers we spoke with—Samantha Stathis-Lynch of Hoboken-based Samantha Ware Designs and Olivia Wahler of Santa Barbara-based Hearth Homes Interiors—it seems we’re all in agreement. This year, we’re all decking the halls with an aesthetic that puts natural elements front and center.

Opt for Natural, Organic Touches

For Samantha Stathis-Lynch, the 2024 festive season is all about natural holiday decor. “Instead of bright lights and figurines, consider lacing your front porch or stoop rail with a mixture of pine, magnolia, and berry garlands,” Stathis-Lynch explains. “Add crushed velvet ribbons in soft sage, greens, and burnt golds for that wow factor.”

Minimalist winterberry Christmas front porch decor ideas

Add an Earthy Pop of Color

If you want to go beyond evergreen, consider adding a pop of color. Each year, Camille enlists the expertise of Elle Worsham, owner of Gracious Garlands, to craft something unique for her front porch. Worsham’s answer: winterberry. The bright red berry still felt organic and natural, but added a bit more visual interest for a head-turning holiday look.

Incorporate Varying Textures for Visual Interest

Metallic, gold, velvet, greenery, twinkle lights, lanterns… it can all be in play according to Olivia Wahler of Santa Barbara-based Hearth Homes Interiors. Mixing textures is the secret to creating a warm and inviting entryway that feels layered and intentional. Pair lush greenery with shimmering metallic accents, like gold ornaments or lanterns, to reflect the sparkle of the season. Add depth with velvet ribbons draped on wreaths or garlands, and let twinkle lights weave through the design for a magical glow. The contrast between natural and luxe elements draws the eye and makes the space feel dynamic, encouraging homeowners to embrace a playful approach to styling.

Get Real

’Tis the season after all. “Real garland, pinecones, and small trees add a very welcoming feel, and they smell amazing as you walk up to the front door,” says Wahler.

Achieve the Effortless Look

“For a simple and effortless front door, match your wreath with your rail by incorporating the same types of greenery, but add dried orange and lemon slices and top it off with a beautiful and floppy bow,” shares Stathis-Lynch.

“If you want to elevate it a step further, use your remaining foliage and add simple swags underneath your windows. You’ll have a show-stopping yet elegant facade where nature’s beauty shines!”

Streamline Your Scene

If you’re dealing with a larger porch or front door, like Camille, it can be difficult to make an impact. “I’ve found that little knick knacks often get lost,” Styles notes. “But when I can streamline it to just a few elements and go really big with them, that’s what makes the most impact. It’s really about leaning into that scale.”

Add a Vintage Touch

Craft an old-world feel with antique accents. Inherited some glittery baubles or a stately Nutcracker? Now’s the time to let them shine. “We love tying vintage brass bells into our wreaths or onto stair rails for a festive flair,” adds Wahler.

Less Is More

In keeping with Styles’ idea to streamline your décor, Wahler warns not to overdo it. “While it can be fun to deck the halls, you don’t want to overwhelm the space,” the designer notes.
